The First Emperor |
¡¡ |
| ¡¡ |
(Ying Zheng) (259-210 BC)---After he conquered all the
six states and established the first feudal dynasty in
China's history-the Qin Dynasty, Ying Zheng proclaimed
himself Shi Huangdi (First August Emperor). In his 29
years of rule, the First Emperor had many achievements
including establishing the Qin Dynasty to end the chaos
of the Warring States period, creating a centralized bureaucratic
system of government, which largely lasted throughout
Chinese imperial history, standardizing metrology (the
system of weights and measures) and traditional Chinese
characters, and building the Great Wall. |
 |
| In the West he is perhaps
the best known Emperor because of his tomb at Lintong
County, Shan'anxi Province about 35 kilometers east of
the city of Xi'an guarded by the Terracotta Warriors. |
